Did you know that the parish is actually 13 communities spread over 6 small churches for a total of 45,000 parishioners! We have 30 baptisms each month, one a day! Each month we also have at least 8 weddings!
For all of this, we have just two priests (yes, two!) but many committed laity who make San Jose the parish it is. My name is Padre Juvencio and my fellow priest Padre Humberto and I are assisted by a wonderful team who are the witness of Christ in our parishs every day life.
We have:
65 catechists who teach our children
15 catechists for our adult community
20 lay ministers for Holy Communion
20 lay ministers for the sick and infirm
12 Caritas ministers specifically for the poor
35 lay ministers for evangelization retreats
Catechism is one of the hallmarks of the parish of San Jose del Cabo.
Each week we have 85 adults in bible classes throughout the parish, 40 adults at the parish theology school and 70 catechists studying in weekly classes at the catechesis school.
Thanks to all of these lay ministers, we can confidently say that there are 1500 children and young people in weekly classes at our catechesis centers and, specifically, 90 teenagers who meet weekly to talk about their faith amidst the challenges of being a young Christian today.
Thank God, it is a thriving and a very happy parish, even if so many of our parishioners are poor. For us, this is a fundamental part of our work ministering to the poor and needy.
At the side of the Mission Church, we prepare and distribute over 50 parcels each week to those who need them. These are filled with basic but important food items such as beans, rice, sugar, coffee, vegetable oil, cornmeal and pasta.
The first Sunday of the month is the offering Mass for the poor and our parishioners attend this Mass with groceries which they bring for the food parcels.
